GREAT WHITE: Jury Selection In Nightclub Fire Trial Delayed

September 20, 2006

The Associated Press reports that jury selection in the criminal trial for an owner of a nightclub where a fire killed 100 people three years ago has been delayed.

Michael Derderian, 45, is charged in the Feb. 20, 2003 fire at The Station nightclub in West Warwick, which was sparked by a pyrotechnics display for the rock band GREAT WHITE. He faces 200 counts of involuntary manslaughter — two counts for each person killed under separate legal theories.

More than 400 jurors who filled out questionnaires earlier this month were initially asked to call into the jury commissioner's office Wednesday to find out if they were required to report back for the jury selection process.
